Library Now Offers New Self-Playing Digital Audio Books

The JJC library is now offering Playaway–the first self-playing digital audio book–to its patrons.

Each unit is around half the size of a deck of cards and can hold up to 80 hours of content. Using clearly marked buttons, Playaway gives listeners the ability to move back and forth within or between chapters and alter the speed of a narrator’s voice, as well as an automatic bookmark feature that remembers where you left off.

Playaway also has a universal headphone jack that works with almost any type of headphone or mobility accessory.

There are over 140 titles on Playaway in the library, including many selections for language learning programs, bestselling adult fiction, and curriculum classics.

Student and staff IDs are required to check out materials from the library. Playaways circulate for one month.

Hi JJC community! 

It’s been a while since we last talked, things here at the library have been busy busy busy!   Along with our daily work of helping students find information for their academic endeavours, checking out/in materials, and trying to keep copies of the works of Stephanie Meyers (the author of “Twilight”) on the shelf for our voracious patrons, we have been putting together displays to exhibit the wide and diverse interests here at JJC.

The displays that you see throughout the library are a way for us to bring attention to important, or popular topics in our lives — in and out of the college world.   It is our hope, that when you come to visit the library, you will take some time and peruse the displays, pick out something that interests you and tell your friends all about it.  Remember, this library is not just for your academic papers, it is also a place to satisfy your other interests — we have a large collection of popular fiction, music and film available for check-out. 

Here’s some of the displays for this semester:

JJC loves food!  The JJC Culinary Arts Department has time and time again proven itself as a first-class program.  Students and Chefs have amassed an impressive collection of national and international awards–taking first place time and time again.   To celebrate their overwhelming acheivements, and the fact that we librarians love to eat, a display of culinary materials, from books to ice sculpting tools have been put on display for all to enjoy.  Come and see great cake models and ice sculptures–before they melt!!

To celebrate American Indian Hertitage, we at the library have put together a display promoting the influence, siginificance and numerous contributions by American Indians throughout history.  Stop by and see the teepee, or come and checkout a book about a tribe(s) that you are interested in!

Please join us as we celebrate our freedom to read! September 27th – October 4th is Banned Books Week. Come in and check out some of the materials that we have collected for you.  Pick up a bookmark.  Enter our drawing for a tee-shirt, tote, or pin.  Find out why some of your favorite titles have been challenged by schools and public organizations throughout history.
