Banned Books Week 2012

Banned Books Week is in full effect at the Library! We are participating with thousands of other libraries and individuals as we bring attention to efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books and the harms of censorship.  Join the JJC Community for the Banned Books Read Out on Tuesday Oct 2 on the Bridge from 6p – 8p.

Curious about what books have been banned in the U.S.? Check out the Library’s banned books display.Image

Banned Books Week

Please join us as we celebrate our freedom to read! September 27th – October 4th is Banned Books Week. Come in and check out some of the materials that we have collected for you.  Pick up a bookmark.  Enter our drawing for a tee-shirt, tote, or pin.  Find out why some of your favorite titles have been challenged by schools and public organizations throughout history.

Here’s some titles which have caused a ruckus:

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

The Chocolate War by Robert Corimer

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

To name a few….

Can you think of any?  Write us with books you thought were banned.
